Psychedelics and Intimacy: A Deeper Connection on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day has its origins in ancient Roman pagan festivals, but it was not widely celebrated in the United States until the 19th century. The modern celebration of Valentine’s Day in the US is largely the result of the efforts of the greeting card and candy industries, which saw the holiday as an opportunity to boost sales.

In the early 20th century, the exchange of Valentine’s Day cards and gifts became a popular tradition among Americans, and it has since become a widely recognized holiday focused on celebrating romantic love and affection. Today, Americans typically exchange gifts, cards, and flowers with their loved ones on Valentine’s Day, and many couples choose to go out on special dates or romantic getaways to celebrate the occasion. If you’re looking for something a little non-traditional, check out our Valentine’s Day gift guide.

Psychedelics and Intimacy

Although not for everyone, there is a connection between psychedelics and increased intimacy. Logically this makes sense because many psychedelic substances release serotonin and dopamine, both of which are connected to feeling, well, connected. If you are interested in exploring a psychedelic connection with your partner, here are a few activities to consider.

Magic Mushrooms

Some people believe that magic mushrooms can enhance empathy, creativity, and introspection. These effects may make it easier to connect with your partner on a deeper level and promote a sense of intimacy and closeness.

Additionally, some individuals report feeling a sense of euphoria, joy, and a greater appreciation of the beauty of nature while using magic mushrooms. These feelings may contribute to a more positive and meaningful Valentine’s Day experience.

It is worth noting that the effects of magic mushrooms can be unpredictable and vary significantly between individuals, and may have adverse effects such as anxiety, paranoia, and distorted perception of reality. Therefore, it is essential to approach the use of magic mushrooms with caution, and a clear understanding of the risks and potential consequences, and only in a safe and controlled environment.

While there may be theoretical benefits to taking magic mushrooms with your significant other, it is crucial to approach the topic with caution and to prioritize safety, responsible use, and informed decision-making.

MDMA

MDMA, also known as ecstasy, has gained popularity among couples, particularly those in relationship counseling, due to its ability to enhance feelings of empathy, love, and emotional closeness. The drug increases the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of well-being and happiness, which can lead to heightened emotional openness and bonding between partners. It can also reduce anxiety and defensiveness, making it easier for couples to communicate and work through relationship issues.

Furthermore, the use of MDMA in a therapeutic setting, with trained professionals and proper dosing, has shown promising results in treating trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This has led to an interest in using the drug as a tool to facilitate healing and growth in relationships.

However, it is important to note that the use of MDMA carries significant risks, including the potential for overdose, addiction, and adverse psychological effects. Therefore, it should only be used under the guidance of trained professionals in a controlled environment.

Psychedelic Activities

Whether you’re microdosing psilocybin or LSD, or trying out a little MDMA, there are plenty of ways to make Valentine’s Day that much more special.

Share a Romantic Meal

Preparing a meal together, or enjoying a special dinner at a restaurant, can be a great way to connect and create a romantic atmosphere.

Here are a few suggestions for incorporating culinary mushrooms into a romantic Valentine’s Day meal:

  • Mushroom risotto: A creamy, comforting bowl of risotto made with mushrooms, shallots, garlic, and a splash of white wine can be a delicious and romantic dish.
  • Stuffed mushrooms: Stuffing mushroom caps with a flavorful mixture of herbs, cheese, breadcrumbs, and other ingredients can create an elegant and tasty appetizer or main course.
  • Mushroom and steak skewers: Grilled skewers of tender beef, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes can be a satisfying and flavorful main course.
  • Mushroom soup: A warm and hearty bowl of mushroom soup can be a comforting and romantic dish for a cold Valentine’s Day evening.
  • Mushroom pasta: Tossing pasta with sautéed mushrooms, garlic, butter, and parmesan cheese can create a simple but delicious and satisfying meal for two.

You certainly don’t need to use magic mushrooms in your recipes, but a little sprinkle of ground up mushroom powder just might be the right way to get your daily microdose.

Try Something New Together

Even if these activities are already something you share with your partner, there’s always a new variation to explore and keep things exciting. Especially is a microdose (or more) is involved!

  • Take a walk in nature: Spending time in nature can be a peaceful and calming experience, and can also provide opportunities for exploration, discovery, and conversation. Find a trail you haven’t yet explored together.
  • Listen to music: Listening to music can be a powerful way to connect emotionally and creatively. You might try creating a playlist of songs that have special meaning for you both and share the experience of listening together.
  • Find a new hobby: Trying something new and exciting, like a dance class or a cooking lesson, can be a fun and memorable way to connect and build new shared experiences.
  • Practice mindfulness and meditation: Engaging in mindful practices like meditation, yoga, or breathwork can help create a calm and centered atmosphere, and provide a space for deep reflection and introspection.

Be creative! If you can’t agree on which activity to try, throw a few topics into a hat and draw.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Lovers

However you choose to spend your evening, we hope you do so feeling grateful, loved, and appreciated. And if you’re feeling adventurous, perhaps psychedelics and intimacy is right up your alley.
